My favorite Easter candy is probably Cadbury Creme Eggs. I've loved those things since I was little, and since they only come in Spring, one can only get their fill for so long. As a 20-something, the love for them wore off a bit, mostly because I couldn't finish an egg without feeling like I was going to bounce off the walls with all the sugar that I just had. And then? Cadbury got smart and made mini-eggs! Now I can get my creme egg craving without feeling too guilty (and not too sick either). My adult-self is quite grateful for the tiny eggs. Oh, and also as an adult? Really not a fan of those weird suicidal Cadbury Creme Egg commercials, much prefer the ones with the bunny.
And then? I was browsing through the food section of my Zite app, and I happened upon a recipe for Cadbury Creme Egg brownies from Pixelated Crumb. I found it a few weeks after Easter 2011, and it just didn't feel right to make them unless it was around Easter time. So, I bookmarked the recipe, and made a mental note to myself to try to make them the following Easter. (On a sidenote, most of the recipes that I've bookmarked since using Zite have been for desserts. :D Can you tell what kind of house this is?)
Well, here we are, Easter 2012! I'm nearly finished making the brownies, I just have to do the chocolate topping. I'm actually planning on making one more recipe before the weekend is done, but I need to get some more stuff before I can. I found a fantastic little recipe to make your very own creme eggs! It comes from Ashley Rodriguez, who also has a blog called Not Without Salt. They pretty much follow the same premise as the brownies, but in actual egg form. I'm not much of a homemade candy person, but these are just too cute and awesome to not try! Hopefully all goes well.
Here is the meal plan for the week; mostly oldies but goodies (I say that about LOTS of the dishes, but it's true!). Happy Easter and happy cooking all!
