Our little weekend trip to Las Vegas was not as relaxing as we would have liked it to be (darn pool not being open!), but we did have lots of fun. We found a new slot machine game that we both LOVED (and promptly lost lots of money on), did some shopping (found a cute diaper bag and a few more maternity pieces) and, of course, had lots of delicious food too.
The food portions were very American: MASSIVE. I'm still amazed that I managed to finish a good chunk of my dish. My burger was perfectly cooked, and the brioche bun went very well with the lamb overall. I loved, LOVED their fries: fresh cut shoestrings tossed with parsley and Parmesan, perfectly crisp on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. The house made ketchup went with it quite well, and the slight hint of horseradish actually worked quite well. Hubby quite enjoyed his rarebit, but was hoping for a much smaller portion. The little bite that he gave me was quite flavorful.
While we waited for our meals, we were offered freshly baked bread, house made mustard, butter and pistachios. The bread was delicious: crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The mustard was very tasty; just enough bite and not too strong. Yum!
Our mains arrived after a few minutes. Hubby had the Poulet Roti (roast chicken) and I had the Coquilles St-Jacques (scallops). My scallops were easily the biggest ones I've ever had in a restaurant, and they were incredibly fresh and tender. The savoy cabbage & lardons they were resting on were a lovely compliment to the scallops. The sauce soubise was DELISH! Hubby quite enjoyed his chicken, and gave me a small bite of it. It was incredibly tender and moist, with a very crispy skin. Yum!
We decided to get desserts. Hubby ordered the gelato (which came with a scoop each of pineapple, passion fruit and pink grapefruit) and I ordered the profiteroles, which came with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. My dessert was much larger than expected, but SO delish. The chocolate sauce was poured on once it was it set in front of me, and it was easily the richest chocolate sauce I've had on a dessert. The profiteroles themselves were more dense compared to others that I've had, but they were very crisp on the outside and went quite well with the vanilla ice cream. Hubby's gelato was quite tasty; he gave me a bite each of the pineapple (SO good) and the pink grapefruit (not my favorite fruit in the world, but this stuff was darn tasty). Overall, we had a lovely experience at Bouchon.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, I'm really not sure which side to fall on), both of us were feeling really picky and didn't really eat much from the buffet overall. The food was very tasty, at least the food that I did try. A little more American than French, but it was still yummy. I found this one very tasty pasta made with cheese, truffles and asparagus which I quite enjoyed and the French onion soup that I had was very hearty. Definitely a neat concept, and would definitely indulge more if ever we come back to Vegas.
Here is the meal plan for this past week. I'll be back tomorrow (I hope! I'd like to get back to posting on Saturdays) with a post on the restaurant we went to last Friday for Valentine's. Have a great evening and happy cooking all!
