Yesterday was the Grey Cup parade, the first parade of the year that I decided to accompany our marching band to. Naturally, being Vancouver, it rained for the whole parade, but the students were at least able to stay dry insided the Tom Lee store until it was our turn to go...LAST. Yah, very last entry in the parade. They rocked it out though. :D Hubby said that he really liked their rendition of Phantom of the Opera.
We are only DAYS away from December 1st, which means that I can soon begin all my baking! As I said last week, I've gone through the calendar to plan when the cookies (two kinds, a meringue-chocolate chip one and an orange-coconut one), cupcakes (chocoloate peppermint ones!), coffee cake (raspberry crumble), chocolate-raspberry pie (notice a trend?), and bread (that I said I would make in the summer) will occur. I've now been going through a couple of recipes to verify that I have all the ingredients needed, and slowly but surely will begin stocking up on said ingredients.
Today? I had to restock my margarine blocks, which is something that I always have in our freezer and our fridge. I usually leave a few in the fridge and freeze the rest of them; it keeps quite well and I just take out more whenever I need them. I also had to pick up cream of tartar, which is something that I don't use quite frequently. Even when my mom baked, I can think of maybe two or three recipes that called for the stuff. Hubby had never heard of it before (he thought it was tartar sauce!) until today. It will be used in the cocoa cloud cookies, a meringue-type cookie with mini-chocolate chips (another thing that I had to pick up). I also decided to restock on flour, though it turns out that I didn't need to just yet. I expect to be going through most of the flour that I have over the holidays, since nearly EVERY recipe requires it somehow.
Here is the meal plan for the upcoming week. Mostly comfort food recipes, topped off with the German-style Christmas market at the end of the week. So incredibly excited for its return! Enjoy the rest of the week and happy cooking all!
Oh yeah...GO LIONS GO!
